4.1.1 Deliberate Strategy
-A deliberate strategy describes an approach businesses and leadership teams use that's premeditated, thoughtful and planned. Typically, organizations create their deliberate strategies using data analysis. It’s typically generated from a rigorous analysis of data, including metrics such as: • Market growth • Segment size • Customer needs • Competitor strengths and weaknesses • Technological trajectories Here are examples of unforeseen circumstances that can prompt emergent strategies: • Market changes: An unexpected change in a company's market or industry, like an unexpected increase in demand, can lead to emergent strategies as a company works to address these changes. • Economic changes: Fluctuations in the economy can also prompt emergent strategies. • New ideas: In some situations, an emergent strategy can result from an employee suggesting a new procedure. 4.1.2 Emergent Strategy - emergent strategy is one that arises from unplanned actions and initiatives from within an organization. It’s typically viewed as the product of spontaneous innovation, and often a direct result of the daily prioritization and investment decisions made by individual contributors, such as middle managers, engineers, financial staff, and salespeople. Here are examples of unforeseen circumstances that can prompt emergent strategies: • Market changes: An unexpected change in a company's market or industry, like an unexpected increase in demand, can lead to emergent strategies as a company works to address these changes. • Economic changes: Fluctuations in the economy can also prompt emergent strategies. • New ideas: In some situations, an emergent strategy can result from an employee suggesting a new procedure. 4.1.3 Incremental Strategy - Incremental strategic planning identifies the changes an organization needs to implement in order to improve specific conditions, whether these are community conditions or organizational conditions.
