Mental Aspects  It refers to intellectual capacity. Mental capacity of a growing child: 18months can point to pictures 2 years - name letters 3-6 years IQ development

4years can read and write 5years recognize words like stop and go; hot and cold 6 years read on his own and read aloud

The childs efficiency in reading will depend on the following: 1. visual and auditory acuity 2. mental ability 3. environmental conditions

Emotional Aspect  Emotional behavior is interrelated with other aspects of childs growth. Social Aspect  This is the way how well a person conducts himself with other people and how well he observes the rule of etiquette that govern society.

Sound development is manifested as follows: Six Months - take notice of other children Two Seven Years Old - plays cooperatively - speaks to other children - joins them to play - asks another for help - waits for his turn - makes friendly advances - defends small children - initiates activities Ten Years Older - observe the rudiments of teamwork

Factors Affecting Social Development  Socio-economic status  Level of maturity  Family cultural background

Physical Aspect  Heredity and environment determine the entire physiological system of an individual. 1. Autonomic Nervous System This controls the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory apparatus, urinary bladder, rectum and glands.

2. The Brain At birth, the weight of the brain is greater in proportion to the total weight than it will be at any later time. By fifth year, the weight of the childs brain is eighty percent of the maximum weight. In the ninth year, the brain is 90% of its total weight at its maximum development. Maximum brain weight is attained at twelve years old.

3. The Heart and the Circulatory System At the age of six, the heart weighs four to five times as much as compared to hearts birth weight. 4. The Lungs The increase in the volume and weight of the lungs is great during the early years of adolescence and continues at a lesser rate until adulthood.

Physical and Sexual Development For girls, growth spurts between 8-11 years, reaches its peak at 12 years, and is completed at 15-18 years. For boys, growth spurts between the ages of 11-14 years, reaches its peak rates at 15 years and is completed at 21 years. The adolescent develops more mature notion of time. During late adolescence and early childhood, the ability to acquire knowledge reaches its peak efficiency.

Moral Aspect  This is the persons awareness of the difference between what is wrong or right. Spiritual Aspect  People are generally religious but they differ in what they worship and how they worship.
