Introduction to Learning
Introduction to Learning
E-Learning & Web Based Learning
Synchronous Learning
Synchronous Learning
learning and teaching takes place in real time (same
time) while the trainer and learners are physically
separated from each other (place shift).
Examples include:
 listening to a live radio broadcast

watching live a television broadcast

audio/video conferencing
Internet telephony
online lectures
Asynchronous Learning
 Asynchronous Learning
 Characteristic for asynchronous learning is the fact that the trainer
prepares the courseware material before the course takes place. The
learner is free to decide when he wants to study the courseware
 Examples include:
 self paced courses taken via Internet or CD-Rom
 videotaped classes
 stored audio/video
 Web presentations or seminars
 recorded audio tapes
 Q & A mentoring
 reading e-mail messages

 SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young
Aspiring Minds) - India MOOCs

 SWAYAM PRABHA – DTH Project for educational

excellence
Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)
 Massive - potential of extremely large enrolments
 Open - both enrolment and resources point of view.
-- Courses are open to anyone without any
restrictions or any prior learning requirements.
-- Open courses that are free for anyone interested in
registering with open courseware that can be
downloaded, saved, and reused.
 Online - content delivery mode.
 Course - how a course operates requiring enrolment, a
definite timeline, instruction delivery and assessment.
SWAYAM
One-stop web and mobile based interactive platform
courses ranging from High School to University level.
High quality learning experience using multimedia on
anytime, anywhere basis.
State of the art system that allows easy access,
monitoring and certification.
Peer group interaction and discussion forum to clarify
doubts
Hybrid model of delivery that adds to the quality of
classroom teaching.

Introduction to LMS
Introduction to LMS
 Learning Management Systems (LMS) are sometimes also
called as

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE),

Course Management System (CMS),

Managed Learning Environments (MLE),

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)

Introduction to LMS
Learning Management System (LMS)
 is a set of software tools designed to manage user learning
interventions including online, virtual classroom, and instructor-
led courses.
 web-based and facilitate "anytime, any place, any pace" access to
learning content and administration.
 can be used to totally or partially replace face-to-face teaching.-
learning.
 The focus of an LMS is to manage learners, keeping track of
their progress and performance across all types of training
activities.
 Learning management systems, have a crucial role in bridging
the digital divide.
Introduction to LMS
 These systems usually run on servers, using one or more
databases and a programming or scripting language to
serve the course to students as internet pages.

 LMS should make it possible for a course designer/teacher

to present to students (through a single, consistent, and
intuitive interface) all the components required for a course
of education, learning and facilitation.
