The year 1757 bears the mark of being an important year in Indian History. The
Company Rule, refers to the rule of British East India Company over parts of the
Indian Subcontinent. The company came to India and set-up a few factories at
different places.Slowly and gradually, they began expanding and extending their
dominance in India.they took advantage of the disturbed circumstances among the
Indian rulers.. Indian princes, however, were “short-sighted” which means they only
considered immediate benefits but ignored its long-term consequences. So, they took
help from the English merchants to be able to defeat their rivals.
When British came in India some of the Indian people where very happy because
they didn't probably know what was the truth behind the britishers coming in india
but some people who known what the britishers had come to do were not favouring
the british. People were thinking that because britishers came in India there will be
peace in the country. Some of them where also accepting britishers as their rulers.
the Indian states and the princes were short-sighted and were busy fighting with each other. They lacked
unity. They also often sought British help and East India Company took full advantage of this. The British
followed the policy of ‘Divide and Rule’ and also subdued the Princes. Some people favoured the British
while some did not. However, Tipu Sultan of Mysore fought with the British. But unfortunately, he died in
the year 1799 fighting the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War
