What is an Eclipse?
 Takes place when a celestial body is temporarily
obscured by another celestial body or by its shadow.
Lunar Eclipse
 Happens only when the sun, Earth, and the moon are
aligned exactly or very closely with Earth in the middle.
Umbra
 Is the region of total shadow, if we were in the umbra of
Earth’s shadow, we would see no portion of the sun.
Penumbra
 It is a partial shadow and would see part of the sun
peeking around the edge of Earth.
Types of Lunar Eclipse
Solar Eclipse
 Occurs when the moon passes between Earth and sun,
and the moon cast a shadow over Earth. It takes place
only at the phase of new moon, when the sun and the
moon in alignment, as seen from Earth.
