Antiscabious and antipedicular agents

Scabicides ( antiscabious agents) are compounds used to control


the mite sarcoptes scabiei, an organism that thrives under
condition of poor personal hygiene or

Chemistry:
• It is an ester of benzoic acid
• It is formed by esterification
reaction between benzoic acid and
benzyl alcohol.
Physical properties:
• It is colorless liquid with a faint
aromatic odour
• It is insoluble in water but soluble
in organic solvent
• It is non staning and non irritating
to skin.

• It has cyclohexane ring

under alkaline condition.

scabies and pediculosis.

(Dichlorodiphentrichloroethane)
• Its toxicity is lower than DDT
