the offer. The firm has already shared the salary structure. But, we have also attached the
revised salary structure along with this letter, we request you to kindly go through this.

package and match the compensation offered by the other company as we consider you to
be suitable candidate for IP.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The case is an example of corporate offer and acceptance made


during the recruitment process. Pratap Mehta, a young and
experienced person in Chemical engineering received a job offer
from Indian Paints Ltd. During campus placement, but he is
confused whether to reject or accept the offer, so he decided to
mail some question to managing director, reveal his initial job
status, salary and is now optimistic about the company’s
potential and his personal growth. Now the managing director
has two option: accept Pratap’s potential in his organisation, or
reject his sense of behaviour.

Situation Analysis
Pratap Mehta, a recent IIM Ahmedabad graduate and chemical
engineer, received a first- class degree and also worked with
Hindustan Synthesis (HS) for 2 years. In January Mr. Jal A. Rustomjee
want IIM Ahmedabad for campus placement on behalf of Indian Paints
Limited (IP).In the initial round, five candidates were selected for the
further selection process and were invited to Nagpur. After this Three
people were selected and offered job and were invited to Nagpur and
Mr. Mehta wrote a letter to Mr. K.L.Varnishwalla, the MD of IP. At the
beginning of the letter, Mr. Mehta was formal and also showed
interest in the growth of the organization. In the letter, Mr. Mehta
Mentioned the other job offer that he had already received from his
previous employers (Hindustan Syntheticts). He also highlighted that
the remunerations are better then the offer given by IP. Mr. Mehta
was concerned about his career development and personal growth
and he was in some dilemma about whether he should move forward
with IP’s offer or HS’s offer. Now the question is whether Mr.
Varnishwalla will consider this email to be positive or negative.
PROBLEM STATEMENT

How Mr. Varnishwalla should reply to Mr. Mehta’s questions and


what approach should be consider to solve the question

OPTIONS

In this instance, Mr. Mehta is correct in inquiring about his carrer


and personal improvement, but the manner in which he did was not
formal and also create dilemma situation for Mr. Varnishwalla
In order to reach a conclusion following option could be considered.
1. Mr. Varnishwalla should hire Mr. Mehta.
2. Mr. Varnishwalla rejects Mr. Mehta.
Criteria of Evaluation
In order to make a decision Mr. Varnishwalla needs to analyze the situation.
The following are the criteria which will help Mr. Varnishwalla to make his
decision.

Now taking help from the criteria, and analyzing the situation, Mr.
Varnishwalla make his decision.


Criteria 1 (Future Oriented) – Definitely it’s very easy to figure out that Mr.
Mehta is future oriented that is why he’s very keen to understand the
company’s future plans and other details to make the best decision and
work with his happy heart to contribute even more to the organization’s
growth.
 Criteria 2 (Professionalism) – As a managing director of the
company you always looks for the professionalism in your
employees. As we all know the importance Professional in
business it gives you enough confidence to go further with
decision making. Mr. Mehta is very Professional person as he
wants to convey or clarify his thoughts to Mr. Varnishwalla
hence wrote a letter to him for the same.

 Criteria 3 (Leadership Quality) – If someone wants to work on


senior level in business Leadership quality is the most priority
that is needed, Because you need to manage people and get
the best out of them to grow as an organization. Mr. Mehta
could be a great leader because he worked as a junior assistant
engineer already in the Hindustan Synthetic, one who worked
on the junior level can definitely understand the role of good
leader.
ACTION PLAN

IF Mr. Vanishwalla wants to select Mr. Mehta he needs to take care of


few things.
1. As well know Mr. Mehta about the future plan of IP then Mr.
Vanishwalla needs to take care of that what will be the information
that he will be going to share.
2. As IP will appoint Mr. Mehta as senior they needs to take care of
the roles and responsibilities also which they provide him.

Contingency Plan
IP should hire Mr.Mehta because IP ia also not a old company and the
experience of the Mr. Mehta Will be definitely going to help IP to grow
as a organization as a paint industry.
