FARMING
◦ Viking farmers grew most of their food. They grew oats, barley and wheat to make to make flour and
porridge. They ate vegetable such as carrots, onions, beans and cabbages-vegetable that grew well in
cool climates. They kept farm animals, including sheep, goats, cattle and chicken.
TRADING
◦ The Vikings hunted wild animals such as seals, deer, foxes, wolves and bears. They ate the meat and used
the fur to make warm clothes or trade other goods. Before they had coins, Vikings traders often bought
and sold using pieces of silver.
FISHING AND HUNTING
◦ Many Vikings built their settlements near to the coat or river. Fishermen used nets to catch sea fish such
as cod and herring or river fish such as salmon and trout. They caught seabirds to eat and took eggs from
the nets.
