Types of Speech

According to Delivery
1. Manuscript Reading
2. Memorized Speech
3. Impromptu Speech
4. Extemporaneous Speech
MANUSCRIPT READING
• Involves writing out a script in full and
reading it aloud.
• Wordings should be planned carefully
• It lacks naturalness and spontaneity
• It may not facilitate eye contact and
conversational delivery style, as it induces a
mechanical and monotonous tone
MEMORIZED SPEECH
• A manuscript committed to memory.
• It will allow eye contact to your audience as you
deliver your speech.
• More free to use gestures and execute bodily
movements.
• Lacks spontaneity and naturalness.
• You may forget some lines and the tendency to
be lost is great.
IMPROMPTU SPEECH
• Done on the spur of the
moment, with very little time
for preparation
• Made without any preparation
EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH
• Prepared in advance but delivered
spontaneity or naturalness
• You will have the opportunity to vary your
material depending on the interest and
attention of your audience, to adjust these
materials to the changes of the speaking
