the author himself.

 He describe the people in Amsterdam is

being controlled by the powerful people who
captive their place.
“IT IS LATE IN THE HOUR OF
IMPERIALISM.”
 The literal meaning of the statement is the
imperialism is almost done or near to end.
WHO ARE THE CREOLES, THE
NATIVES, THE OTHERS?
 The Creoles, the Natives are the citizen or
locals and the others are those foreign in
Amsterdam.
