promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere
can attain the highest level of health.

the world’s response to health emergencies. And we promote healthier lives – from

the world to achieve good health for all, using science-based policies and programmers

• The WHO framework for performance measurement consists of three intrinsic goals of
health systems: health, responsiveness, and fairness in financing
• WHO are the member of WHO?
• The WHO has 193 Member States, including all UN Member States except
Liechtenstein, and two non-UN members, Niue and the Cook Islands.
Functions of food
Food is usually of plant, animal, or fungal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as
carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an
organism and assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, maintain life, or
stimulate growth.
SOURCES OF FOOD
• Plants and animals are the main source of food for all the organisms on earth. Food
obtained from animals is the main source of protein and include fish, milk, meat, poultry,
and cheese. Whereas plants provide us with fruits and vegetables, which are an
important source of fibers, proteins and carbohydrates.

ANIMAL PRODUCTS AS FOOD
• Animal products which are used as food are eggs, chicken, mutton, fish, honey,
milk etc. Milk is used for drinking purpose, converted into other useful products such as
curd, butter, ghee, cheese. Fish gives us cod liver oil which is rich in vitamin A. Honey is
produced by honey bees
MARINE FOOD
• Seafood comprises all bony fishes and the more primitive sharks, skates, rays, sawfish,
sturgeons, and lampreys; crustaceans such as lobsters, crabs, shrimps, prawns, and
crayfish; mollusks, including clams, oysters, cockles, mussels, periwinkles, whelks,
snails, abalones, scallops, and limpets; the cephalopod mollusks ...
FOOD HABITS OF ANIMALS
• carnivores- they are flesh eaters. e.g.-lion, tiger,snake,wolf.
• herbivores- they are plant eaters. e.g.-cow,horse,deer,rabbit.
• omnivores- they eat both plants and animals. e.g.-bears,human beings,crow,chimpanzee.
• scavengers- they feed on dead body of animals.
