Jesus character the same as Father’s character
• Had God the Father come to our world and dwelt
among us, humbling Himself, veiling His glory, that
humanity might look upon Him, the history that we
have of the life of Christ would not have been changed.
. . . In every act of Jesus, in every lesson of His
instruction, we are to see and hear and recognize God.
In sight, in hearing, in effect, it is the voice and
movements of the Father. {TMK 338.4}

The light from the cross of Calvary.
• In order to be rightly understood and appreciated, every
truth in the Word of God, from Genesis to Revelation,
must be studied in the light that streams from the cross
of Calvary. I present before you the great, grand
monument of mercy and regeneration, salvation and
redemption--the Son of God uplifted on the cross. This is
to be the foundation of every discourse given by our
ministers. {Ev 190.1}
From the cross God’s attributes appears attractive.
• The mystery of the cross explains all other mysteries. In the
light that streams from Calvary, the attributes of God which
had filled us with fear and awe appear beautiful and attractive.
Mercy, tenderness, and parental love are seen to blend with
holiness, justice, and power. While we behold the majesty of
His throne, high and lifted up, we see His character in His
gracious manifestations, and comprehend, as never before, the
significance of that endearing title, "Our Father." {AG 186.6}
Only Christ was able to reveal God’s true character.
• Taking humanity upon Him, Christ came to be one with
humanity, and at the same time to reveal our heavenly
Father to sinful human beings. He who had been in the
presence of the Father from the beginning, He who was
the express image of the invisible God, was alone able to
reveal the character of the Deity to mankind…. Tender,
compassionate, sympathetic, ever considerate of others,
He represented the character of God, and was constantly
engaged in service for God and man. Mh 422.2
God is never changed by the circumstances .
1john 4;16 Nasi tumelifahamu pendo alilo nalo Mungu

"God is love." 1 John 4:16. His nature, His law, is love. It
ever has been; it ever will be. "The high and lofty One that
inhabiteth eternity," whose "ways are everlasting,"
changeth not. With Him "is no variableness, neither
shadow of turning." Isaiah 57:15; Habakkuk 3:6; James
1:17. {PP 33.1}
• He never pays evil with evil.
How can we deal with error?
The way to dispel darkness is to admit
light. The best way to deal with error is
to present truth. It is the revelation of
God's love that makes manifest the
deformity and sin of the heart centered
in self. {DA 498.5}

• God could have destroyed Satan and his sympathizers


as easily as one can cast a pebble to the earth; but He
did not do this. Rebellion was not to be overcome by
force. Compelling power is found only under Satan's
government. The Lord's principles are not of this
order. His authority rests upon goodness, mercy, and
love; and the presentation of these principles is the
means to be used. God's government is moral, and
truth and love are to be the prevailing power. {DA

• Again the piercing look of Jesus swept over the desecrated court of the temple.
All eyes were turned toward Him. Priest and ruler, Pharisee and Gentile, looked
with astonishment and awe upon Him who stood before them with the majesty
of heaven's King. Divinity flashed through humanity, investing Christ with a
dignity and glory He had never manifested before. Those standing nearest Him
drew as far away as the crowd would permit. Except for a few of His disciples,
the Saviour stood alone. Every sound was hushed. The deep silence seemed
unbearable. Christ spoke with a power that swayed the people like a mighty
tempest: "It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have
made it a den of thieves." His voice sounded like a trumpet through the temple.
The displeasure of His countenance seemed like consuming fire. With authority
He commanded, "Take these things hence." John 2:16.

Jesus is harmless.
•Heb 7:26 For such an high priest became
us, [who is] holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and made higher
than the heavens;
His followers are to be harmless.
• Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and
harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the
midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among
whom ye shine as lights in the world;
• Math 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in
the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as
serpents, and harmless as doves.
True disciples of Jesus follows him by understanding his love.

• It is not the fear of punishment, or the hope of


everlasting reward, that leads the disciples of
Christ to follow Him. They behold the Savior's
matchless love, revealed throughout His
pilgrimage on earth, from the manger of
Bethlehem to Calvary's cross, and the sight of Him
attracts, it softens and subdues the soul. Love
awakens in the heart of the beholders. They hear
His voice, and they follow Him. {DA 480.3}
The gospel is to be presented, not as a lifeless theory, but as a living
force to change the life. God desires that the receivers of His grace
shall be witnesses to its power. Those whose course has been most
offensive to Him He freely accepts; when they repent, He imparts to
them His divine Spirit, places them in the highest positions of trust,
and sends them forth into the camp of the disloyal to proclaim His
boundless mercy. He would have His servants bear testimony to the
fact that through His grace men may possess Christlikeness of
character, and may rejoice in the assurance of His great love. He
would have us bear testimony to the fact that He cannot be satisfied
until the human race are reclaimed and reinstated in their holy
privileges as His sons and daughters. {DA 826.2}

JESUS AND THE NATURE OF JUDGEMENT.
Maagizo ya Mungu ni uzima wa milele.
• John 12;49 Kwa sababu mimi sikunena kwa nafsi

ameniagiza nitakayonena na nitakayosema.

Jesus came for the judgment.

But Jesus judges no man.

How judgment then resulted.

john 3;19 Na hii ndiyo hukumu; ya kuwa nuru

Christ never accuses.
•Juda 9 Lakini Mikaeli, malaika mkuu,
aliposhindana na Ibilisi, na kuhojiana
naye kwa ajili ya mwili wa Musa,
hakuthubutu kumshitaki kwa
kumlaumu, bali alisema, Bwana na
akukemee.
The principle of accusing originated with Satan.
•Rev 12;10 Nikasikia sauti kuu mbinguni,
ikisema, Sasa kumekuwa wokovu, na
nguvu, na ufalme wa Mungu wetu, na
mamlaka ya Kristo wake; kwa maana
ametupwa chini mshitaki wa ndugu zetu,
yeye awashitakiye mbele za Mungu wetu,
mchana na usiku
Accusing principle belongs to Satan.
• When those who are in God’s service resort to
accusation, they are adopting Satan’s principles to
cast out Satan. It never will work. Satan will work.
He is working upon human minds by his crooked
principles. These will be adopted and acted upon by
those who claim to be loyal and true to God’s
government. How shall we know that they are
untrue, disloyal? “By their fruits ye shall know
them.” {CTr 14.2}
Satan’s principle turned against
himself.
• The Lord saw the use that Satan was making of his
power, and he set before him truth in contrast with
falsehood. Time and time again during the
controversy Satan was ready to be convinced, ready
to admit that he was wrong. But those he had
deceived were ready also to accuse him of leaving
them. What could he do--submit to God, or
continue in a course of deception? He chose to deny
truth, to take refuge in misstatements and fraud.

Points to note:
• Satan trained his angels to accuse as he was trying to
excuse himself and make God and the faithful angels
to appear as the cause of all the evils.
• Afterwards he was convinced that he was wrong. He
was ready to change his course. But the angels he
deceived were ready to use the weapon he had given
them against him. They were ready to excuse
themselves and accuse him. His burden was great.
• All the sinful ways will turn against the sinner himself.
Christ and the destruction of Satan.
• Heb 2;14 Basi, kwa kuwa watoto wameshiriki
damu na mwili, yeye naye vivyo hivyo alishiriki
yayo hayo, ili kwa njia ya mauti amharibu yeye
aliyekuwa na nguvu za mauti, yaani, Ibilisi,
• 1John 3;8 atendaye dhambi ni wa Ibilisi; kwa
kuwa Ibilisi hutenda dhambi tangu mwanzo.
Kwa kusudi hili Mwana wa Mungu
alidhihirishwa, ili azivunje kazi za Ibilisi.
Satan defeated his own purposes.
• John 12;31 Sasa hukumu ya ulimwengu huu ipo; sasa
mkuu wa ulimwengu huu atatupwa nje.
‘’By causing the death of the Sovereign of heaven, Satan
defeated his own purposes. The death of the Son of God
made the death of Satan unavoidable. Satan was allowed
to go on until his administration was laid open before the
worlds unfallen and before the heavenly universe. By
shedding the blood of the Son of God, he uprooted himself
[from sympathy], and was seen by all to be a liar, a thief,
and a murderer. {CTr 14.5}
Satan overthrew himself.
Satan is the author of death. What did Christ do
after He brought Satan under the dominion of
death? The very last words of Christ while expiring
on the cross were “It is finished” (John 19:30). The
devil saw that he had overdone himself. Christ by
dying accomplished the death of Satan and brought
immortality to light. {CTr 287.3}
Satan is counted as died for his death sentence was
passed; and one day God will not save him from it.
Satan’s principles are potential for his
destruction…
• At the beginning of the great controversy, the
angels did not understand this. Had Satan and his
host then been left to reap the full result of their
sin, they would have perished; but it would not
have been apparent to heavenly beings that this
was the inevitable result of sin. A doubt of God's
goodness would have remained in their minds as
evil seed, to produce its deadly fruit of sin and woe.
{DA 764.2}
Strife among evil
angels.
• Satan stood in amazement at his new condition. His
happiness was gone. He looked upon the angels who,
with him, were once so happy, but who had been
expelled from heaven. . . . Now all seemed changed.
Countenances which had reflected the image of their
Maker were gloomy and despairing. Strife, discord,
and bitter recrimination, were among them. . . . Satan
now beholds the terrible results of his rebellion. He
shuddered, and feared to face the future, and to
contemplate the end of these things. {TA 46.1}
The sword of justice. Revealed from the
cross.
• The agony which Christ endured, broadens, deepens,
and gives a more extended conception of the
character of sin, and the character of the retribution
which God will bring upon those who continue in sin.
{AG 168.4}
• The sword of justice was unsheathed, and the
wrath of God against iniquity rested upon man's
substitute, Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the
Father. {AG 168.5}
God withdrew from Christ.
• -Could mortals view the amazement and sorrow
of the angels as they watched in silent grief the
Father separating His beams of light, love, and
glory, from His Son, they would better
understand how offensive is sin in His sight. As
the Son of God in the Garden of Gethsemane
bowed in the attitude of prayer, the agony of His
Spirit forced from His pores sweat like great
drops of blood. [5BC 1124.3]
Father’s frown.
•The divine light of God was receding
from His vision, and He was passing
into the hands of the powers of
darkness. In the agony of His soul He
lay prostrate on the cold earth. He
was realizing His Father's frown.

Christ died not from the bodily pain
• But bodily pain was but a small part of the agony of God's dear Son. The sins
of the world were upon Him, also the sense of His Father's wrath as He
suffered the penalty of the law transgressed. It was these that crushed His
divine soul. It was the hiding of His Father's face--a sense that His own dear
Father had forsaken Him--which brought despair. The separation that sin
makes between God and man was fully realized and keenly felt by the
innocent, suffering Man of Calvary. He was oppressed by the powers of
darkness. He had not one ray of light to brighten the future. And He was
struggling with the power of Satan, who was declaring that he had Christ in
his power, that he was superior in strength to the Son of God, that the Father
had disowned His Son, and that He was no longer in the favor of God any
more than himself. If He was indeed still in favor with God, why need He die?
God could save Him from death. {2T 214.2}
Cause of Death More than Physical Factors

We must derive all our understandings from the


cross. Note the following sequence:

“…he bore the guilt and shame of sin, and the


hiding of his Father's face, till the woes of a lost
world broke his heart, and crushed out his life on
Calvary's cross….” {GC88 651.2}
The Burden of Sin=Crushing Despair
“Christ felt the woe that sinners will feel when they awake
to realize the burden of their guilt, to know that they have
forever separated themselves from the joy and peace of
Heaven. {SJ 145.2}
 
“Calvary alone can reveal the terrible enormity of sin. If
we had to bear our own guilt, it would crush us.” MB 116
 
Different capacity for suffering.
• Human nature can endure but a limited amount of test
and trial. The finite can only endure the finite measure,
and human nature succumbs; but the nature of Christ
had a greater capacity for suffering; for the human
existed in the divine nature, and created a capacity for
suffering to endure that which resulted from the sins of a
lost world. The agony which Christ endured, broadens,
deepens, and gives a more extended conception of the
character of sin, and the character of the retribution
which God will bring upon those who continue in sin.

Christ would have died in gethsemane
• "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me:"
but if there is no other way by which the salvation of
fallen man may be accomplished, then "not as I will, but
as thou wilt." Human nature would then and there have
died under the horror of the sense of sin, had not an
angel from heaven strengthened Him to bear the agony.

• → Note that he was strengthened to suffer the full
penalty of human sins.
Those who have been near God will suffer more keenly.

• The human nature of Christ was like unto ours, and


suffering was more keenly felt by Him; for His spiritual
nature was free from every taint of sin. Therefore His
desire for the removal of suffering was stronger than
human beings can experience. How intense was the
desire of the humanity of Christ to escape the
displeasure of an offended God, how His soul longed for
relief, is revealed in the words, "O my Father, if this cup
may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be
done." {5BC 1103.8}
