Review – countable/uncountable nouns
• Countable nouns exist in both forms: singular
and plural.
▫ Book/books
▫ Friend/friends
 Be careful with irregular plurals
 Child/children
 Person/people
 Man or woman/men or women
Review – countable/uncountable nouns
• Uncountable nouns are always singular.
▫ Sugar
▫ Water
▫ Money
 But there are some ways to count them if necessary,
for example:
 Two spoonfuls of sugar.
 Three bottles of water.
 Ten euros.

• Affirmative sentences:
▫ I have some friends in Madrid.
▫ There are several fake accounts of Shakira on
Instagram.
▫ I’ve got many comics that I haven’t read yet at
home – I won’t buy this one.
▫ I’m bored of him – he’s told the same joke a lot of
times now.
▫ There are plenty of people looking for a job
abroad nowadays.

• Negative sentences:
▫ There aren’t many things to do on a Tuesday
evening in Elche.
▫ There are no good films on the cinema this week.
▫ There aren’t any good films on the cinema this
week.

▫ Would you like some cookies?
▫ How many exams do you do every year?

• Affirmative sentences:
▫ I left some money on the table.
▫ There’s plenty of time before the film starts –
what shall we do till then?
▫ A lot of plastic was found in the river after the
heavy rains.

▫ There isn’t any bread at all. How am I supposed
to make a sandwich like this?
▫ There is no bread at all.
▫ Their new teacher hasn’t got much patience.
