Reading and Writing Numbers Up to Thousands

• Read numbers starting from the leftmost digit, which is the highest
place value.
• Separate the thousands place from the hundreds by a comma(,) when
the number is written in words.
• When writing the numbers twenty-one to ninety-nine, use a hyphen
(-) between the tens and the ones number.
Writing Numbers in Expanded Form

* The numeration system we use today is called the Hindu-Arabic


numeration system.
* Zero is a place value holder.
• We can repeat the same digit to form numbers.
• The expanded form of a number is an addition expression involving
the values of the digits.
