underlying cartilages

FACIAL ATERY ORIGIN

• From the
External carotid
artery
• Just above the
tip of greater
cornu of Hyoid
bone
Course in the neck
• Ascends vertically upwards deep to
posterior belly of digastric and stylohyoid
muscle

• Lodged in a groove behind submandibular


gland

• Passes downward and forward between


submandibular gland and medial pterygoid
to appear at lower border of Mandible.

• Curves around lower border of mandible


• Pierces the deep fascia to enter face
• Appears at anteroinferior angle of the
Messeter muscle

Trigeminal neuralgia
(Tic Douloureux)

• Trigeminal neuralgia is sudden, severe facial pain.

• It's often described as a sharp shooting pain or like having an


electric shock in the jaw, teeth or gums.

• It affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from


your face to your brain.

• If you have trigeminal neuralgia, even mild stimulation of


your face — such as from brushing your teeth or putting on
makeup — may trigger a jolt of excruciating pain
