Child Abuse

Introduction
• The 1988 National Seminar On Child Abuse in India
organized by The National Institute Of Public Co-operation
and Child Development child abuse is when a parent or
caregiver, weather to action or falling to act, causes injury,
death , emotional harm, or risk of serious harm to a child
which may lead to temporary or permanent impairment to their
physical mental development disability or death. It is a most
significance social and health problem that can have long-term
impact on health and well-being of the child. It includes
threats of physical violence, sexual abuse, verbal abuse etc.
Definition

Child abuse is any action by another person- adult or child – that


causes significant harm to a child. It can be physical, sexual, or
emotional, but can just as often be about a lack of love , care and
attention.
Child abuse refer to any children who receives non-accidental
physical and psychological injury as a result of acts and omissions
on the part of his parents, guardians, employer.

Demographics

The total abuse rate of children is 25.2 per 1000


children, with physical abuse accounting for 5.7 per
1000,emotional abuse 3.4 per 1000, sexual abuse 2.5
per 1000, neglect accounting for 15.9 per 1000
children.
Type of Child Abuse

i. Physical neglect – Failure to meet the basic needs of child.


ii. Physical abuse – Use of physical force against the child
intentionally.
iii.Emotional abuse – It may be insults, humiliation, rejection,
ignoring etc.
iv. Sexual abuse – Sexual involvement between a child and an
adult.
v. Social abuse- It includes child marriage, child beggary , child
Laboure etc.
Risk Factors Of Child Abuse


Marital conflict, single parenting , family stress, domestic violence.

Previous history of abuse.

Mentally or physically disabled child.

Financial stress in family.

Poor parenting skill.

Alcohol, drug, or other substances abuse.
Causes of Child Abuse
1. Domestic violence

Conclusion
There are many problems related to child abuse which needed to be
addressed, because it is spreading all round the world. We have
responsibilities to provide support and protection to the children. If
the problems are disturbed among all society , teachers, parents ,
caretakers prevention will progress , then risk of child abuse is
lower. We must help the children for living a better life.
