1.1 Photosynthesis

Plants make their own food in a process called photosynthesis

These are the things that plants need for photosynthesis:

 carbon dioxide
 water
 light (a source of energy)

These are the things that plants make by photosynthesis:

 glucose (biomass)
 Oxygen
1.1 Photosynthesis

Biomass:
Plants use the food that they make in photosynthesis to
make new cells and tissues.
Material that is made of living cells and tissues is called
Biomass.
1.2 Leaves

Chlorophyll:
Most leaves are green. This is because they contain a
green pigment called chlorophyll. (A pigment is a
coloured substance.)

Why is chlorophyll is essential for photosynthesis ?

Chlorophyll captures energy from light. The leaf can
then use this energy to make food.
1.2 Leaves

How leaves are adapted for photosynthesis?
