18BT0YB – MUSHROOM CULTIVATION AND VERMICOMPOSTING

LIFE CYCLE OF MUSHROOM

 GENERAL OBJECTIVE :
To understand the structure and life cycle of mushroom and its
types [Edible,Poisonous,Medicinal].

 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES :
 SO1 : Illustrate the structure of mushroom (U/C)
 SO2 : Represent the lifecycle of mushroom (U/C)
 SO3 : Classify the types of mushroom based on spore colour,
size and shape (U/C)
Fungal Body

 Mycelium
 Loosely woven mat of hyphae
 Feeding structure
 Made of hyphae
 Different shapes for different fungal groups
 Make spores, either by mitosis or meiosis
Mushroom Structure

 Inoculation: Spores alight upon a growth medium (or substrate). If

conditions are favorable, spores will germinate.

 Spore germination: Fine fungal filaments known as hyphae grow from

the spores. Compatible hyphae mate to create fertile mycelium.

 Mycelial expansion: Developing mycelium breaks down organic matter

and absorbs nutrients from its surroundings.

 Hyphal knot: Mycelium condenses into hyphal knots, which

then develop into “primordia” or baby mushrooms.
