INTRODUCTION AND DEFINITION
 treatment plan is defined as “the blueprint for case management”.
it includes all procedures required for the establishment and maintenance of oral health.
The aim of the treatment plan is total treatment-
the coordination of all treatment procedures for the purpose of creating a well-functioning dentition in a
healthy periodontal environment.
Deciding factors for individual periodontal therapy are:

 Patient’s own desire


 Patient’s age
 Financial circumstances
 Preference of individual clinician
PHASES OF TREATMENT PLAN
 Emergency phase/preliminary phase
 Phase I : etiotrophic phase
 Phase II : surgical phase
 Endodontic (apicoectomy, hemi-section, root
amputation)
Dental implant
 Periodontal (gingivectomy, flap surgery with
flap or osseous graft.
 placement of implants
 Phase III : restorative phase
 Phase IV : maintenance phase

SEQUENCE OF PERIODONTAL TREATMENT
PLAN
EMERGENCY PHASE
Also called as “the preliminary phase”.
It includes:

 Dental or periapical abscess


 Periodontal abscess
 Splinting
 Extraction of hopeless teeth
PHASE I : ETIOTROPHIC PHASE

This phase is “cause related”.


It deals with Plaque control and patient education.
It involves:
 Diet control in PATIENTS WITH RAMPANT CARIES.
 REMOVAL OF CALCULUS AND ROOT PLANING.
 CORRECTION OF RESTORATIVE AND PROSTHETIC IRRITATIONAL FACTORS.
 EXCAVATION OF CARIES AND RESTORATIONS.
 ANTIMICROBIAL THEORY.
 OCCLUSAL THERAPY.
 MINOR ORTHODONTIC MOVEMENTS.
 PROVISIONAL SPLINTING AND PROSTHESIS.
PHASE II : SURGICAL PHASE

Periodontal therapy

PHASE III : RESTORATIVE PHASE
 Final restorations

RPD AND FPD
 FIXED PARTIAL DENTURE
PHASE IV : MAINTENANCE PHASE

This phase comes after every other


phase of the treatment plan.
It involves Periodic re-checking for:
 Plaque and calculus
 Gingival condition (pockets,
PLAQUE CALCULUS
inflammation)
 Occlusion
 tooth mobility
 Other pathologic changes
