PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
ACTIVITY 1
(My Organizations)
SOCIAL INFLUENCE
-The influence of the society that results in a
behavior or attitude modification of an individual.
-It happens when one’s emotions, opinions, or
behaviors are affected by others.
-It comprises the ways in which individuals
change their behavior to meet the demands of a
social environment.
- It takes many forms and can be seen in
conformity, socialization, peer pressure,
obedience, leadership, persuasion, sales, and
marketing.
THREE FORMS OF SOCIAL
INFLUENCE
1. CONFORMITY: fitting in
2. COMPLIANCE: doing
what is asked
3. OBEDIENCE: abiding by
CONFORMITY (Example)
-Returning someone’s wave
or verbal greeting, not
wishing to be perceived as
manner less, unfriendly or
rude.
COMPLIANCE (Example)
- Imagine a friend asking, “Could you do
me a favor?” This is an example of a
social situation that involves
compliance. If an individual responds to
this question in the affirmative and
grants the friend’s requested favor, that
individual is exhibiting compliance.
OBEDIENCE (Example)
- Relationship between doctors and
nurses. Studies have shown that
often nurses will obey the orders of
the attending physician, even if the
nurse has reason to believe that
doing so might harm the patient.
