TYPES OF PERSONALITIES

It is classified personality in to types which is recognized as the type approach of personality in


psychology. There are psychologists who have classified the personality base on different
aspects
• Hippocrates
• Sheldon
• Krestchmer
• Carl Jung
CLASSIFICATION OF HIPPOCRATES

According to Hippocrates the human body consists of four types of fluids The
predominance of one of these four types of fluids in one’s body gives him unique
characteristics leading to a particular type of personality.
• blood
• yellow bile,
• phlegm
• black bile.
01.SANGUINE TYPE - BLOOD

• Light hearted
• Optimistic
• Happy
• hopeful
• accommodating
02.CHOLERIC TYPE - YELLOW BILE

• Irritable
• Angry
• Passionate
• Strong with active imagination
03.PHLEGMATIC TYPE – PHLEGM

• Cold
• Calm
• Slow
• Sluggish
• indifferent
04.MELANCHOLIC TYPE – BLACK BILE

• Bad tempered
• Dejected
• Sad
• Depressed
• Pessimistic
• Self involved
CLASSIFICATION OF WILLIAM SHELDON

Sheldon classified all human beings on the basis of temperament besides the physical
structure .William scheldon is an American psychologist and physician who was best known for his
theory associating physique, personality, and delinquency.
Temperament is the constellation of inborn traits that determine a child’s unique behavioral style
and the way he or she experiences and reacts to the world” (Kristal, 2005)
ENDOMRPHIC (soft and round) love comfort and food, sociable, affectionate
energetic, clear and risk taker
fearful, withdrawing, reserved
01. ENDOMRPHIC (SOFT AND ROUND)

These type of personality holders have a tendency toward a


“viscerotonic” personality
• relaxed,
• comfortable,
• extroverted
02. MESOMORPHIC (MUSCULAR AND STRONG)

These type of personality holders have a tendency toward a


“somotonic” personality
• active,
• dynamic,
• assertive,
• aggressive
03. ECTOMORPHIC (THIN AND TALL)

These type of personality holders have a tendency toward a


“cerebrotonic” personality
• introverted,
• thoughtful,
• inhibited, sensitive
CLASSIFICATION OF ERNST KRESTCHMER

E.Krestschmer a German psychiatrist classified human beings on the basis of


physsical structure , and attempted to establish relationship between personality
characteristics and body type
a) asthenic (thin, small, weak)
b) athletic (muscular, large–boned)
c) pyknic (stocky, fat)
d) dysplastic (unproportionate body)
01. ASTHENIC TYPE

The essential characteristic of the asthenic type, in Kretschmer's words, "a


deficiency in thickness combined with an average unlessened length".

02. ATHLETIC TYPE

Athletic type is characterized by the strong development of the


musculature, skeleton, and also the skin.
• Energetic
• adjustable
03. PYKNIC TYPE

The pyknic type tend emphatically to a covering of fat.

• Popular
04. DYSPLASTIC TYPE

This type doesn’t exhibit any of those specific characteristics they


are a mixed with all those above characteristics.

CLASSIFICATION OF CARL JUNG

The most important personality classification done by Jung on


the basis of sociability he has accepted two types of people-
Extrovert personality
Introverts personality
EXTROVERT PERSONALITY

Extroverts-these people more interest in others and like to mix


with people of similar temperaments. They are realistic and face
problems of life objectively and are always ready to take part –
traders ,players, actors, social and political leaders
INTROVERT PERSONALITY

As the name suggests ,the mental tendencies of those people are


directed ,not outward to people around them, but rather inwards to
themselves. of social activity around them. Self centered they are
busy in their thoughts and they try to impress others only by their
thoughts. scientist ,philosophers and poet
