LOVING YOUR MOTHER


In this lesson, you will learn to:
• note details in a literary text listened to;
• speak clearly using appropriate pronounciation
and intonation;
• use context clues to find meaning of unfamiliar
words;
• note significant details in a literary text;
• read words, phrases, poems, or stories with long
vowel a sound; and
• write about a character in a story.
Listen as your teacher reads the short story
“Always Delay Judgment”. Note the details in
the story by answering Wh-questions: Who,
What, Where, When and How.
CONTEXT CLUES:
Context Clues are words of hints that help
you understand the meaning of the word.
These context clues can be with similar
meaning or an explanation of the unfamiliar
word in the sentence or in the preceding or
following sentence.
Circle the context clues that give meaning to
the Underlined words.
1. She tried hard not to reveal her feelings. She did not show ill
feelings toward her daughter.
2. Mother was a little disappointed. She kept her frustraion to
herself.
3. Give others the opportunity to explain themselves. Give them
a chance to talk.
4. Always delay judgment. You must wait for others to express
their opinion first.
5. Never conclude for others. Let them end according to what
they like.
LONG VOWEL
Long vowel refers to vowel sound pronouced the same
as its letter name.

Long vowel a is pronounces as /eI/. It can be spelled with


long vowel a, digraphs ai and ay, or words with long vowel
a that ends in letter e (a-e).

ay - clay, tray, away
a-e - grape, erase, stage
ELEMENTS OF A STORY
1. Characters - the people in the story.
2. Setting - the place where the story takes place.
it includes the time, place, and duration of a story
3. Plot - the sequence of events that happen in the
story.
4. Theme - the central topic of the story
5. Conflict - the tension in the story faced by the
character.
