What is ?

• Genetics is the scientist of


genes and heredity (how
certain characteristics or
traits are inherited from
parents to children as a
result of changes in the
DNA sequence.
What’s a gene?

• A gene is a segment of DNA, which contains the


instructions for making one or more molecules that help
the body work.
Relevance

• Genetics acquires a special relevance when studying the


transmission of diseases. In the same way that eye color
is inherited from parents to children, there are also
diseases that can be transmitted to offspring, in this case
we speak of genetic or hereditary diseases.
