Compost or composting
Composting is the process when organic wastes such as tea leaves, fruit and
vegetable wastes, and food scraps are put into the soil to improve the fertility
of the soil and enrich the soil. These organic wastes are then decomposed. It
also prevents plant diseases. The degradation of bio degradable wastes are done
by micro organisms like worms. These micro organisms or worms convert
these bio degradable wastes into manure.
Benefits of compost to improve the fertility of soil
Compost prevents soil erosion. This is done by the ability of slowing water flow
through the soil by increasing the holding capacity of sandy soils
It enriches the soil. Compost improves the soils ability to hold nutrients and also
provides nutreients. It delivers food to the plants in the form of nitrogen and
potassium.
Compost also prevent pests and prevents diseases. Plants are at risk to pests when
nutrients are imbalaced.
Compost help in absorbing water and keeping plants from drying out.
