employees will what types of training they need, at what levels, and how they
should be trained adhere to the IMDG Code's guidelines.

Function-specific training shall be provided with thorough instruction on

specific dangerous goods transit regulations that are relevant to that person's
job performs.

Safety training Safety instruction Corresponding to the exposure risk in the

case of a release and the functions completed
PART 2
CLASSIFICATION
Explosive substance implies a substance that, alone or in combination with
other substances, is capable of produce gas at the specified pressure and
temperature through chemical reaction.

Explosive article means an article containing one or more explosive substances

. Mass explosion means one which affects almost the entire load virtually
instantaneously.
"flash composition"refers to pyrotechnic compositions
with an oxidizing material, such as black powder, and a
metal powder fuel that are employed in the production of
an auditory report effect as a charge that explodes in
fireworks apparatus.
GASES
Toxic" has the same meaning as "poisonous".

GAS a gas that, at -50, is completely gaseous when packaged under

pressure for transportation "C; All gases having a critical temperature
below or equal to -50 fall under this category "C;

Gas that is partially liquid when packaged under pressure for

transportation is known as (liquefied gas) over –50 °C high pressure
liquefied gas: a gas with a critical temperature between -50"C and
+65"C, and low pressure liquefied gas: a gas with a critical temperature
above +65"C;
Refrigerated liquefied gas a gas which when packaged for transport is made
partially liquid because of its low temperature; or .4 Dissolved gas: a gas which
when packaged under pressure for transport is dissolved in a liquid phase
solvent.

Non-flammable, non-toxic gases are asphyxiant - gases which dilute or replace

the oxygen normally in the atmosphere; or are oxidizing - gases which may,
generally by providing oxygen, cause or contribute to the combustion of other
material more than air does.

Toxic gases which are known to be so toxic or corrosive to humans as to pose a

hazard to health
Flammable liquids
Flammable liquids are liquids, or mixtures of liquids, or liquids
containing solids In solution or suspension

Explosives that are suspended or dissolved in liquids, such as

water, are known as(liquid desensitized explosives.)
Toxic substances

(median lethal dose) is the statistically determined single dose of a chemical that
can cause acute oral toxicity. be anticipated to result in 50% of young adult
albino rats dying within 14 days when administered by the oral method.

acute dermal toxicity is that dose of the substance which, administered by

continuous contact for 24 hours with the bare skin of the albino rabbit, is most
likely to cause death within 14 days in one half of the animals tested.
Radioactive Material

Anything that contains radionuclides and is radioactive is defined as having both

a high activity concentration and the consignment's overall activity is greater
than its values.

Multilateral Approval, means approval by the relevant competent authority of

the country of origin of the design or shipment,

Unilateral Approval An approval of a design that must be issued by the

responsible authority . only under the control of the design's country of origin.
Low Specific Activity (LSA) material refers to radioactive material, which by
definition has a narrow range of applications. activity, radioactive substances
that fall within the bounds of an estimated average specific activity.

Corrosive Substances denotes substances that, when used together, will result
in serious damage when in contact with living tissue, or leakage will cause
material damage, if not outright destruction other products or the mode of
transportation
PART 4
PACKING AND
PROVISIONS
Use of packaging, including intermediate bulk containers (laCs) and
large packaging

Dangerous items must be packaged in high-quality containers, such as IBCs

and bulk containers, which must possess sufficient strength to withstand the
shocks and loads typically encountered during transit.
A. Effectively closed: liquid-tight closure.
B. B. Hermetically sealed: vapour-tight closure.
C. Securely closed: so closed that dry contents cannot escape
during normal handling; the minimum provisions for any closure.
Use of portable tanks and multiple-element gas containers (MEGGs)

UN portable tanks and MEGCs built in accordance with a granted design approval certificate
prior to January 1, 2008 may be used as long as they are determined to meet the applicable
periodic requirements. provisions for inspection and testing.

Filling Before filling, the shipper must confirm that the portable tank is approved for the
liquefied gas that isn't chilled. that the portable tank is not filled with liquefied gases that must
be chilled before being carried.

Portable tank instructions providing instructions for portable tanks detailed details regarding
rules for portable tanks that apply to particular substances.
Use of bulk containers Bulk containers must be siftproof and tightly sealed
to prevent any contents from escaping under normal circumstances.
Vibrations, variations in temperature, humidity, or pressure, and other
transport-related factors are all considered.

CONSIGNMENT
PROCEDURES
The guidelines for risky goods consignments regarding the authorization of
deliveries, alerts in advance, marking, labeling, and documentation (manually
or using computerized data) Placarding and electronic data processing (EDP or
EDI) approaches.

Marking and labelling of packages including IBCs

These rules primarily deal with the marking and labeling of dangerous
commodities in accordance with their properties. However, extra signs or
symbols that point out the need for handling or storage precautions a parcel
Specification of the marine pollutant mark

1. The marine pollutant mark, of which a specimen is given in the figure, shall
be in contrasting colour to the packaging, or, when used as a sticker, coloured
black and white.

2. For packages, the triangular mark shall have sides of at least 100 mm except
in the case of packages which, because of their size, can only bear smaller
marks.

Cargo ships or passenger ships carrying a number of passengers } limited to not more than 25
or to 1 passenger per 3 meters of ON DECK OR UNDER DECK overall length, whichever is
the greater number Other passenger ships in which the limiting number of passengers } ON
DECK OR UNDER DECK transported is exceeded

Stowage in relation to living quarters, When determining the required stowage clear of living
quarters, consideration shall be given to the the potential for leaking vapors to enter the
workspace, equipment spaces, and other locations via bulkhead entries, other openings, or
ventilation ducts.
Stowage of marine pollutants Under deck stowage is favored when stowage is
allowed unless there is a weather emergency. the deck offers comparable
security. When just deck stowage is necessary, attention should be given to
decks that are well-protected or to stowage inboard on protected decks that are
not covered.
