WHAT IS CONSTITUTION?

Constitution refers to "that body of rules and


maxims in accordance with which the power
of sovereignty are habitually exercised.
CONSTITUTION OF THE PHILIPPINES

May be defined as that written instrument by which


the fundamental powers of the government are
established, limited, and defined and by which
these powers distributed among the several
departments or branches for their safe and useful
exercise for the benefit of the people.
WHO ARE THE CITIZENS OF THE
PHILIPPINES?

1. Those who are the citizens of the Philippines at the


time of the adaption of this constitution;
2. Those whose father's or mother's are citizens of the
Philippines
3. Those born before January 17, 1973, of Filipino
mother's, who elect Philippine citizenship upon
reaching the age of majority
4. Those who are naturalized in accordance with law.
DUTIES AND OBLIGATION OF
CITIZENS
1. TO BE LOYAL TO THE REPUBLIC. This means that we have
faith and confidence in the Republic and love for and devotion to
the country.
2. TO DEFEND THE STATE. It is our prime duty to love and
defend the state at all cost regardless of our creed, religious beliefs,
and wisdom.
3. TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND
WELFARE OF THE STATE We can do this in the form of
paying our taxes willingly and promptly.

CITIZENS
4. TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION AND OBEY THE LAWS.
It is our prime duty to uphold the constitution and obey the laws. If
the people would disregard them, our country would collapse and we
will not have peace and order.
5. TO COOPERATE WITH DULY CONSTITUTED
AUTHORITIES. In every organization there will always a leader to
manage the affair of all the constituents.
6. TO EXERCISE RIGHTS RESPONSIBLY AND WITH DUE
REGARD FOR THE RIGHTS OF OTHERS. In the exercise of
our rights, we have to see that we also respect the rights of other
people.
DUTIES AND OBLIGATION OF
CITIZENS

7. TO ENGAGE IN GAINFUL WORK. It is our


obligation as a citizen to become productive, by engaging
in gainful work so that we can provide the basic needs for
our family and for ourselves as well.
8. TO REGISTER AND VOTE. It is our prime duty as a
citizen of the Philippines to register and vote
HOW CAN WE BECOME A GOODCITIZEN?

We can become a good citizen by living in accordance with good


citizenship values which can we derive from the preamble of the
constitution.

We the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of:
 Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane
society
 Establish a Government that shall embody our ideals
and aspirations
 Promote the common good
 Develop our patrimony
 Secure to ourselves and our posterity

 The blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of
law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and
peace
 Do ordain and promulgate this Constitution
THE BASIC VALUES OF THE FILIPINO
POEPLE
For an adult, his basic values can be seen in his outward
manifestations as well as decision-making. There is
always a consistency in what he thinks and feels and what
he says.
Every Filipino child needs to be helped to form his own
values consistent with basic Filipino values, if he is to
grow into a citizen who is ‘maka-Diyos, maka-tao, maka-
bayan, and maka-kalikasan’
