 The global news media is mostly based in America and Europe

 Operate globally and supply more than 80 percent of the international news to the media.

 Supply news about war, events, national and international conflicts, stock markets and sports.

 Any development around the world is reported to the world by this global news media.
ASSOCIATED PRESS (AP)
 The Associated Press (AP) is an American not-for-profit news agency headquartered in New
York City.
 Founded in 1846, it operates as a cooperative , unincorporated association.
 Its members are U.S. newspapers and broadcasters. AP news reports, distributed to its
members and customers, are produced in English, Spanish and Arabic.
 As of 2016, news collected by the AP was published and republished by more than 1,300
newspapers and broadcasters. The AP operates 263 news bureaus in 106 countries
UNITED PRESS
INTERNATIONAL (UPI)
 Based in US, it is a private and and profit-making corporation.
 Its mostly relies on North American customers to maintain a global operation.
 In 1990s, majority of its shares were owned by Saudi, but in 2000, it was taken over by Moons
Unification Church.
 It provides news services to more than 6000 customers in some 100 countries.
REUTERS
 Reuters is an international news organization owned by Thomson Reuters. Until 2008, the
Reuters news agency formed part of an independent company, Reuters Group plc, which was
also a provider of financial market data.
 It was established in 1851
 It has become a corporation and its shares are available at NASDAQ exchange.
 Its revenue is based on financial information like currency price worldwide.
 Reuters employs some 2,500 journalists and 600 photojournalists in about 200 locations
worldwide.
AGENCY FRANCE PRESS (AFP)
 It is an international news agency headquartered in Paris, France. Founded in 1835 as Havas, it
is the world's oldest news agency.
 AFP has regional headquarters in Washington (North America) Hong Kong (Asia-Pacific)
Montevideo (Latin America) Nicosia (Middle East) Paris (Europe and Africa)
 AFP transmits stories, videos, photos and graphics in French, English, Arabic, Portuguese,
Spanish and German.
 Based in Paris, AFP covers 151 countries, with 201 offices, 50 local correspondents and five
regional centers:
 AFP says it employs 2,400 people of 100 different nationalities, including 1,700 journalists. It
provides information in six languages (French, English, Spanish, German, Portuguese and
Arabic), twenty-four hours a day

SOVIET UNION (TASS)
 It is a major  news agency  in Russia founded in 1904. TASS is the largest Russian news
agency and one of the largest news agencies worldwide, along with Reuters, AP, UPI and AFP.
 It is one of the major news agencies on the basis of countries where its correspondents are
working, number of languages and words disseminated.
 It’s announced its independence after the fall of USSR in 1992 and changed its name to
Information Telegraph Agency of Russia (ITAR).
 It maintained 150 correspondents in 127 countries and served 5100 subscribers in 93
countries.
