Introduction/Background of The Study
Hans and Hans (2015) define ESP as the specific purposes to learn English. The thing
which is often referred to as English for Specific Purposes is Teaching English for tourism.
Since Bali is known as the most favorite destination for most tourists all around the world,
therefore, there are so many schools and training centers which focus on providing education
in the field of tourism or hospitality. Sun Lingua College (SLC) Singaraja is one of the institu-
tions in Bali which provides the opportunity for learners who want to involve in tourism indus-
try to study about tourism. Housekeeping is one of the majors offered at this institution.
Introduction/Background of The Study (Cont.)
However, it is found that the English instructors in this institution don’t use any
syllabus, thus there was no ESP textbook for housekeeping. The instructors only used internet as a re-
source to find the relevant material. In the other hand, the syllabus is very important
in conducting education so that it will create good lesson. The limited material resources, especially for
housekeeping students at SLC Singaraja became the reason of this research and development to be
conducted.
