In a dystopian future, where the water is controlled by the Keepers, thirst

is part of everyday life. Kailani ventures into the desert, to the
mysterious The Edge, to find the water her sick brother needs.
 before the events of this story

Before the Keepers invaded and took over the water,

life was happier and less deprived

people used the water for their daily

purposes on a frequent basis and
there was no problem
even back then the water in many places
was not cared for and was polluted in
multiple ways
 in a nutshell

So the Keepers, so to speak, what they really did was just

speed up this process in which the humans ran out of water.
 but the future is not promising in this story

in this story, after the humans retrieved the resource, they were visited by
another alien race
which had as its main objective...
 The Martians

over the planet and
