He was born on March 16, 1892, in Santiago
de Chuco, being his parents Francisco Vallejo
and María Mendoza. He studied Letters at the
University of Trujillo, graduating in 1915. He
worked as a teacher in Trujillo and Lima until
in 1923 he traveled to Europe. He lived
between Paris and Madrid writing poems and
newspaper articles. He was also in Moscow. In
1934, he married the Frenchwoman Georgette
Philipport.

Vallejo is considered the greatest poet of Peru. His work reflects the pain
caused by social injustices and the heartbreaking search for human solidarity.
He also sought to vindicate the Indian. His main collections of poems are: Los
Heraldos negros, Trilce, Spain, take this chalice away from me, Human Poems.
In narrative stand out: Paco Yunque, Fabla salvaje and El Tungsteno. He died
in Paris on April 15, 1938.

OF DANIEL ALCIDES CARRION

 César Vallejo (1892-1938) is the most internationally


recognized Peruvian poet. His work is characterized by the
"creation of a very personal poetic language". In addition, he
is the author of novels, short stories and essays where he
reflects his support for the indigenous movement and
socialist ideology.
