PRINCIPLES OF

GOVERNING
PASSION
PRESENTED BY: KAYC MAURICIO
ANTECEDENT PASSION

• arises spontaneously before the judgement of

reason and before the will can control the
psychological situation.
• the doer of an act is less responsible because
voluntariness is lessened.
• may completely destroy freedom, and
consequently, moral responsibility.
CONSEQUENT PASSION

• do not lessen the voluntariness of an act but may

increase it, because emotion of itself voluntary, he
can reasonably foresee that it will lead.
• the doer of an act is fully responsible because
voluntariness is present.
FEAR
• It refers to a situation which prevents a person
from taking an action or forces him to take an
action because consequences of not following is
grave. Thus fear is an emotion arising from
imminent danger. It lowers the free will and
hence makes an action less human.
