Line and direktions

• Today we are going to talk about LINE. The line
is one of the artistic elements.
• We use the artistic elements to create art works.
They are the basis of the art, in general.
• There are 8 (eight) artistic elements. These are:
lines, directions, value, texture, colour, size,
form-shape) and space.
• The line is a point (dot) in movement. There are
several types of lines, which we use in drawing.
• These are: straight and curved line, then, thick
and thin line, short and long line, contour
(shape) line and texture line.

• Also, the lines can be similar or harmonious or different or
contrasting.
During the process of drawing we
use different drawing materials,
solid and liquid ones.
The solid (hard) ones are: pencil,
charcoal, pastel and wooden
pencils.
The liquid ones are: ink, sepia
(ink made of octopus and squid)
and bajc (made of walnut crust)
Today we are going to make a drawing where we will
combine the line and the direction as two artistic
elements.

The direction is a visual force that moves the eye into

a certain direction.
There are types of directions: horizontal, vertical and
slant.
The vertical is associated with force, power and
growth. The horizontal is associated with tranquility,
stability and space. The slant direction is associated
with movement, dynamics. Whereas, the crossed
slanted directions are associated with drama and
crash (car crash).
Today we will try to draw following topic: drawing trees and a forest by using lines and
directions.
