Industry 4.0 :
• strategic initiative which exploit the modern
technologies, such as Cyber-Physical System
(CPS) or Industrial Internet of Things (IoT)
• CPS is described as a building blocks which are
connected and their decentralized control allow
collecting and exchanging the real-time
information with the goal of identifying,
tracking, locating and optimizing the production
process

Internet of Things :
• Worksite materials [Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags to identify the item]
• With the inclusion of Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking on devices, the IoT can prevent
theft and misuse of equipment, as the network will track all these aspects and can alert a
manager to this. This allows the company to review the health of each of these connected
machines.

Simulation:
Simulation
Simulation division depending on:
• Event probability
-stochastic (use a generator of random numbers- Monte Carlo method)
-deterministic (the result is repetitive and depending on input data and
interaction)
• Output data form:
- static (the result is dataset, static picture)
- dynamic (the result is process in time e.g. animation)

Modeling
Modeling is about finding the way from the problem to its solution through a risk-free world
where we are allowed to make mistakes, undo things, go back in time and start over
again.
In many cases, we can not afford to experiment with real objects to find the right solutions and:
o Building,
o Destroying
o Making changes,
May be too expensive, dangerous or impossible. In this case we can build a model that uses
a modeling language to represent the real system.

Types of models:
o Mental models (how things work in real world:
family, friends, colleagues, car drivers, all our http://corwin-

decisions, what we should say, vote for, eat) connect.com/

o Computer models offer a flexible virtual world

where we can create nearly anything imaginable e.g.
basic spreadsheet in Excel or simulation software

Advantages of simulation modeling
1. A simulation model’s structure naturally reflects
the system structure.
2. In a simulation you can measure values and track
entities within the level of abstraction, and you can
add measurements and statistical analysis at any
time.
3. It is possible to play and animate the system
behaviour in time, and is useful for demonstrations,
verification and debugging.
4. Simulation models are more convincing than Excel
spreadsheet.
