Introduction
 Science and technology has continuously changed several
industrial companies;
 Based on the major developments and advancement in human history;
technology has proven to be the greatest achievement of mankind.
 The introduction of technology continues to remarkably transform and support
urbanization and the growth of businesses worldwide.
 The 21st-century world is experiencing one of the greatest transformations at a
rapid speed that requires people to make adjustments and key into the change
brought by technological advancement (Jones, 2020).
 It is evident that the world is transforming faster than ever and as such, there is a
need to shape the future of construction.
The Construction Industry Growth
 The world population in the urban areas is rapidly increasing at a
rate of 200,000 people per day (Jones, 2018).
 With such a rate, there is always an increase in demands such as utility
infrastructure, transportation, affordable housing.
 In the face of such challenges, it is the obligation of the construction industry to
key into such and solve the issue.
 While most industries continue to experience changes, the Engineering &
Construction sector is still hesitant.
 With the current challenges and problems facing the construction industry, the
adaptation and implementation of the construction technologies will reduce
their impact and enable the advancement of streamlined processes, tackling
more complex projects, improve collaboration, and increase productivity.
Background Analysis

 Over the years, the construction industry continues to face several

challenges and problems;
 The engagement of complex and complicated projects without the proper
knowledge of IT
 The increase rate of the world population pressuring the need for more
infrastructure and social amenities.
 Persistent fragmentation of the industry with the reluctance to fully
embrace the new construction technologies.
 Underinvestment of construction technologies.
 However, the industry is looking forward to a glorious future driven by
technology
New Construction Technologies that will
Reshape the Construction Industry
 The industry has begun to invest
heavily on several new construction
technologies such as;
a. Artificial Intelligence (AI), and drones,
b. Construction Software,
c. Building Information Management (BIM),
d. Project Management Software,
e. Autonomous equipment, and Robots,
f. Computer-Aided Design, and Internet of
Things (IoT).
 With such technologies, there is assuarity that the
construction industry’s future will help provide
the best Smart infrastructures (Holt, 2015).
Technology as the Spearhead of Transformation in the
Construction Industry
 Compared to other global sectors, the E&C sector has been
slower to adapt and adopt to the new technologies.
 The major challenges and problems experienced by the industry is due
to lack of technology.
 For instance, the growth rate of the industry accounts to 6% of global
GDP (Jones, 2020)..
 However, any successful adoption of contemporary innovative process
and improvement in productivity can spearhead a major impact in the
future for the industry.
 All change lies in the industry’s ability to embrace technological
advancement.
Technology as the Spearhead of Transformation
in the Construction Industry
 At the verge of every transformation, there is always a
technology behind it.
 As the sector continues to strongly affect the environment, the economy,
and the community at large, it forces the industry to improve its attitude
about adapting technology (Holt, 2015).
 It is believed that technology will spearhead one of the greatest
transformation in the sector in the future.
 Therefore, technology offers tremendous opportunities for the industry to
experience the transformation.
 Recently, there has been a substantial improvement within the industry,
as more companies are rapidly experiencing change.
.
Why the Industry Needs Technology?

 As per Jones, (2020); industries

strive every time to compete at
different levels;
 In terms of low production costs
 High skilled labor force
 Engaging in complex and complicated
projects.
 Affordable construction prices for clients
 Using complex and innovative new
technologies.
Why the Industry Needs Technology
 In the 21st century, needs of mankind continues to increase
contributed by the construction industry
 The industry needs technology to help improve the global infrastructure
and the economy in general.

 There is still competition within the market as new companies are entering
the market.

 Lack of skilled workforce and shortage workforce .

 The high cost of production process

 Poor infrastructure and structural management.

How its Reshaping the Industry
 Technology has gained popularity and made strides in the industry
due to (Jones, 2018);
 Its benefits that rapport with the current needs.

 It has reshaped the industry in how it operates, delivers and maintains its
built assets.

 It has helped improve Jobsite safety, minimize project risk, and boost
efficiencies.

 Furthermore, the human resource (HR) has been able to improve its
recruitment and hiring process
How its Reshaping the Industry
 For years, the industry has neglected the use and impact of
technology in its future endeavors.
 With the constant challenges surfacing the industry, it only requires
technology to experience tremendous change (Holt, 2015).

 Now, the industry is able to use drones to inform the project managers
about the work progress.

 Using digitalization process to make decision based solutions

 Virtual reality and wearable sensors to improve safety for successful

building process.
.
The Industry Finally Embracing Technology
The Industry Finally Embracing Technology

 With the constant changes in the global market, there was an

urgent need for;

 The industry to adapt to the changes and fully embrace technology

 The industry understood the impact of technology in today’s competitive

market.

 The development of advanced technologies that will assists the current

workforce to both meet the standards and demands of the stakeholders and
clients.
Training Programs

 The construction industry needs to implement training

programs to fully embrace and accept the new technologies.
 Statistics reveal that 39 percent of the industry lacks personnel with
the knowledge and skills to operate such technologies (CIOReview,
2019).

 The industry’s future is highly dependant on how much contractors

can utilize these technologies.

 Therefore, integrating training programs in the construction firms can

be useful for effective utilization.
Conclusion
 In conclusion, construction technologies have proven to be the
most useful tools for;
 Constructing better Smart infrastructures /energy-efficient structures

 Improving the quality of services and productivity

 Boosting efficiency and tackling complex projects

 Lowering the cost of production.

 Meeting the needs and demands of clients at a timely manner.

 Boosting productivity and performance

Conclusion

 Furthermore, there is a need for further investment in the

future for technologies.
 This will help to impact the overall productivity and performance

 It will ensure jobsite safety for workers

 Conclusively, from the above presentation slides, it is evident that

technology continues to reshape the sector.
