The 2012 novel Cinder by Marissa Meyer, which takes the
traditional story of love and the complications of social class
and gives it a future and dystopian twist, is based on the
fairytale "Cinderella." Linh Cinder, or Cinder as she prefers to
be called, is a gifted mechanic who is a cyborg and 16 years
old. Cinder is shunned by society and her adoptive family after
a strange childhood event renders her an orphan and
cyborg. Cinder's city, New Beijing, is threatened by two threats:
the Lunars, a species of highly advanced humans who have
inhabited the moon, and a fatal disease known as
Letumosis. Cinder becomes embroiled in the escalating conflict
between the inhabitants of Earth and the moon when the
emperor's son Kai employs her as a mechanic. She must learn
the truth from her history to protect her world's future as she is
torn between loyalty and betrayal, duty and freedom since
Cinder possesses a unique quality that others would kill for.

T ehe book Cinder doesn't connect to my life in
multiple ways as most of the characters are older,
have jobs, are adopted, abused, and are in love.
There is one connection that Cinder, Kai and I all
share, and it's losing a loved one. Peony was
Cinder's younger stepsister, whom she loved very
much. However, Peony later died after contacting
Letumosis. Cinder later felt guilty over the death as
she saw Peony as her little sister. Kai's mother died
of Letumosis when he was younger, as did his
father, Rikan, at the beginning of the book. On May
4, 2020, I lost a very important, and special person,
my grandfather, Jaspal Singh Dhaliwal. He also
died from contact with a respiratory illness known
as Covid-19. His death affected my family and me
in many ways. Before he left me, we had many little
fights, and now I regret fighting, and I'm sure my
uncle, who brought the disease feels incredibly
guilty. My grandfather was my inspiration. He was
the one who told me about the 3rd eye and
encouraged me to study hard to make history and
make my ancestors proud. He's the real reason I'm
me today. In the life he lived, he has taught me to
follow my dreams, and I will never forget that.

The book Cinder connects to the world The
as there currently a deadly virus going
around called Covid-19. The virus is a
respiratory illness that has caused a
pandemic, inflation, depression, anxiety,
and some say recession. Covid-19 has
spread to almost all the countries on
Earth. Almost 229 countries have been
affected by Covid-19. A total of 630
million people have contacted Covid and
6.59 people have died from it. There are
3 main phases of Covid, Stage 1: Flu-
like symptoms, Stage 2:
Pneumonia/respiratory symptoms, Stage
3: Organ failure. Letumosis is a bacterial
disease in The Lunar Chronicles that has
killed millions of Earthens, but only a
few Lunars, as most of them are
immune. Letumosis is also known as the
Blue Fever or "the plague." The only
known cure requires the blood of
Lunar shells, using their platelets. It is
known to have 4 stages unlike Covid-19.

the media since Covid-19 is still a
thing and people post about it in the
newspapers, news, apps, websites,
internet, posters, social media, etc.
Your local newspapers usually would
talk about Covid-19 if there was a lot
of cases in your city/town. Brampton
and Toronto are examples of cities that
have had Covid-19 outbreaks and have
been reported in newspapers, posters,
news, websites, the internet, social
media, etc. There have been a lot of
movies and tv series that have been
affected by Covid. Cinder is a
futuristic novel and New Beijing has
androids, cyborgs, hovers, ID chips,
netscreens, etc. The whole city of New
Beijing used netscreens to find the
latest news about Letumosis. I'm sure
that there are a lot of documentaries
about Covid-19 but as of now I've
never watched one.

The book Cinder similar to all of
Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles
series books like Scarlet, Cress,
Fairest, and Winter. All the books in
the series have the same characters
and a couple new ones too. The main
characters from the series are Cinder,
Scarlet, Levana, Cress, Winter, Kai,
and Thorne. All the 5 main female
characters are lunar. Cinder travels
around the world to help people who
have gone missing. She then makes
her friends Scarlet, Winter, Cress, and
Thorne. Later in the end of the whole
series Cinder and her friends race
toward Luna, the final battle with
Levana draws near. With the help of
her friends, Cinder must rally her
people against the queen, liberate
them by dethroning her aunt, and take
her place as queen. But I do see me in
the future reading the whole series.

The story is nothing like the normal story of Cinderella that we all probably know by
heart. The story had many, many, many twists which just added to the excitement. It
is full of adventure, as Cinder is volunteered for plague research, asked to fix a royal
android, meets Prince Kai in person, starts developing a small crush on him, and finds
out about her past. This book would be great for any fantasy, sci-fi or adventure lover. It
is very intense and funny, and Cinder is probably the sassiest character you will ever
read about. It isn’t the love story of Cinderella and Prince Charming that we all know of,
and Kai doesn’t like Cinder just because of her looks, but because of her actual
personality! There is some romance in the first book, and you see more of Cinder in the
rest of the series, as well as other characters. If you read and loved Cinder as much as I
did, there are many more books in which you will see Cinder again. I liked how in the
book Kai also got to share his perspective and his feelings after the passing of his father,
it helped him become a main character. I disliked how they didn't talk too much about
how Cinder came to Earth, who brought her, and why? The book didn't talk too much
about Cinder's past, instead it was more in the present tense setting. As a matter of fact,
the ending of the book kind of left me hanging and wondering. I think the author did that
to get the readers to read the whole series and dig deeper with questions. Overall, the
book was phenomenal, I would give the book 4.5. I think some of my friends would be
interested in reading this book but not all. In fact, one of my friends already read the
book with me. This is your sign to read it too!
