TABLE TENNIS
Table Tennis is a common sport that could
be played inside the gymnasium, esp. when it is
windy outside. But this can also be played outside if
there is no gymnasium or a room available. This
game can be played in singles wherein there are two
players competing. This can also be played in
doubles wherein there are two teams competing. The
objective of the game is to hit the ball by a racket
and return it to the opponent over the net.

Table Tennis, an indoor
adaptation of the game of lawn tennis,
played on a table sized-court, with a
small, very light, hollow celluloid ball
and small wooden rackets or paddles.
It is also called “ping-pong.” It is
derived from the sound made by the
ball when it hits the racket and table.

The exact origin of table tennis is not
known, but the game became popular in
England and United states in the late
19th century ; under the name Pingpong.
At that time, when a web-covered
ball was used, the game was also
called “whiff - whaff” and “gossima

1904 - The game lost its popularity because the
cost of the racket and the ball went high.
1920 - the name Ping-pong was changed into Table
Tennis.
1922 - regained its popularity
1926- The International Table Tennis Federation
(ITTF) was established in Berlin. Its main objective
was to formulate laws in table tennis, and sees to it
that the game is played as a contest for human skills,
and the constant change in the equipment are being
disseminated and strictly followed by all.

were dominated by European countries
especially Hungary and Czechoslovakia
1950 - the dominance in Table tennis
shifted to Asia and it has remained
there with a few notable exceptions.

Japan and United States.
 In the Philippines, it also fast
becoming a popular sport. It is now
included as one of the events in athletic
sports meets.

1.The racket – Pimple table tennis
rubbers are rubbers with pimples on the
outside of the surface. These rubbers
grip the ball differently, and more suited
to manipulating your opponent's spin,
rather than spinning the ball. Inverted
rubbers (smooth on the outside) are
generally better for generating spin.

1. Back spin – the ball is struck with
downward, forward motion of the racket.

2. Long Fast Serve - These serves bounce once


on the opponent's side of the table, typically
within six inches or so of his end line.

stroke and it is recommended

The function of the red and black rubber is
different. You can have one side with an inverted
rubber and the other side with a long pimple,
represented by red and black, respectively.

If you play with a racket with these rubbers, you


will understand that the inverted rubber has a fast
killing speed, while the long pimple can increase
the friction, and it is easy to spin the ball. Of
course, it is easy to catch the ball with a long
pimple.
