■ The Mosel Valley,
is located in west Germany, along the Moselle River is more than 550 km long. ■ The Region is located about 50° northern Latitude. ■ The Mosel wine region has 8.744 ha and six sub-regions or districts and 19 collective vineyards sites. Mosel wine region has steep Vineyards and terraced with a slope of over 30 degrees, some planted at an astounding 70 degree gradient, and nearly all grapes have to be picked by hand. ■ The most important soil in the Mosel wine region is the Devonian slate. ■ At the central Mosel one can also find red slate soil around the town. ■ In the upper Mosel we can mainly find limestone Cliff The History • Viticulture was brought to this area by the Romans. • At the 14th century Count Johann IV planted Riesling for the first time in the nearby town of Rüsselsheim. • At the end of the 17th century, the Mosel began to be identified more with wine made from the Riesling grape. • At the 19th century was known as an era of prosperity for the Mosel wine industry under Prussian rule. • Today Mosel wine region is Germany’s fifth largest wine region.
