The Serbian Flag and

its meaning
The Pan Slav Colours

Red, White and Blue; 3 iconic colours used by

many Slavic nations and of which represents the
origin of their people and revolutionary ideas of
sovereignty. Serbia adopted these colours in
around 1804-1835 during their revolt against the
Ottoman Rule.
However, the Serbian people
have adopted and accepted
different meanings for each of
these colours
The red on the Serbian
Flag represents the
blood shed for the
country and the struggle
for freedom.
The Blue represents the
freedom and a sky that
is wide and spacious
The white symbolises
the milk which the
mothers feed the
children so they can be
strong
Lesser Coat of Arms

The Serbia coat of arms is seen on the flag to the

right of the hoist. It features a two headed eagle
with a red shield bearing a cross and a Cyrillic C
in each corner. The letters are thought to stand for
“Samo sloga Srbina spasava” which translates to
“Only unity will

save the serbs.” The arms is topped off with a

crown as well as historical dynastic “fleur-de-lis”
next to each talon. This coat of arms originated
from the Nemanjić dynasty.
