LIFE

 1906 to 1910- Studied Architecture at Karlsruhe


Technical University.
 1914- Worked was as a coworker in the office of
Heinz Lassen in Bremen . Later he led the planning
office in Berlin.
 1919- Worked as independent architect and town
planner, also published numerous theoretical writings
over art, architecture and town construction.
 1929- Hired by Hannes Meyer to teach at the
Bauhaus, Germany.
 1938- He became the director of Chicago's city
planning office.
WORK
 1927- Street hierarchy was first elaborated by
Ludwig Hilberseimer in his book”   City Plan”.
Hilberseimer emphasized safety for school-age
children to walk to school while increasing the
speed of the vehicular circulation system.
 1929- He developed studies concerning town
construction for the decentralization of large
cities.i.e a universal and global adaptable planning
system (The new town center, 1944).
 He planned a gradual dissolution of major cities
and a complete penetration of landscape and
settlement. In order to create a sustainable
relationship between humans, industry, and nature,
 He mainly had a radical approach to architecture
and the city in relationship with the role of welfare,
infrastructure, large-scale design of cities and the
emergence and crisis of 20 th century forms of
urbanization.
 The urban theory of Ludwig Hilberseimer redefined
architecture's relationship to the city.
 His proposal for a high-rise city, where leisure,
labor, and circulation would be vertically integrated.
 Notable project - Lafayette Park (An urban renewal
project).
