Setting up main parameters  Set up CT ratio and VT ratio
 kCT = Iprim / Isec [1]
Example
 In a 100 A rated
 kVT = Vprim / Vsec [1]
current system,
current  Set up digital outputs, either
transformers have
Iprim = 100 A and pulse output rate or alarm
Isec = 5 A. treshold [10]
 kCT is the ratio
between Iprim and
 Serial port RS485
Isec. So in this
case kCT = 100 : 5,
 ID address [31]
then kCT = 20
 In the setup
 Baud rate
menu, set kCT [9.6]
ratio equal to 20
 For kVT ratio = Vprim
 Parity number [n]
: Vsec. With 400 V
primary and 100  Stop bit [1]
V secondary VTs,
kVT ratio is 400 :
100, then kVT = 4.
 In setup menu set
kVT ratio at 4

Communication
Modbus protocol

Modbus is the most widespread communication

protocol in industrial and tertiary environment. Created
by Modicon in 1978, Modbus is a de facto standard in
in electrical power distribution business
 Modbus is a master-slave protocol for devices field communication

 Devices exchange information by sending query and response

messages, formatted according the Modbus protocol specification.
The most widespread physical mean of transmission is RS485 cabling

 All the measured parameters are remotely available on a PC, a

SCADA or a PLC. With special write functions the user can also set up
the instrument parameters kVT, kCT etc.

 Some Modbus endorsers: ABB, Siemens, Schneider Electric,…

 Each device in a Modbus network has an own address and registers

map, making programming easy and reliable
