The body system which is responsible for


performing the task of getting oxygen into the body
and removing carbon dioxide and water from the
body is the respiratory system.
This system is made up of:
upper tract
Lower tract
What does the respiratory system do?
The respiratory system has many functions. Besides helping you inhale (breathe in) and
exhale (breathe out), it:
Allows you to talk and to smell.
Warms air to match your body temperature and moisturizes it to the humidity level our
body needs.
Delivers oxygen to the cells in our body.
Removes waste gases (including carbon dioxide)
Protects our airways from harmful substances and irritants.
Conditions that can cause inflammation (swelling, irritation and pain) or otherwise affect the
respiratory system include:

Allergies

Asthma

Damage
Cough, Sneezing, hiccup, snore, yawn are related to the
respiratory system.
Hiccups are involuntary contractions of the diaphragm.
Hiccups may result from a large meal, alcoholic or
sudden excitement. In some cases, hiccups may be a sign
of an underlying medical condition. It may sometimes be
accompanied by Feeling of stretching in your chest,
abdomen or throat.
yawn

A yawn is an involuntary reflex where the mouth is


opened wide, and the lungs take in a lot of air. During
this time, the eardrums stretch, and the eyes may also
close tight, causing them to water.
Yawning commonly occurs either before or after
sleep. Yawning also occurs frequently in people who
are doing boring or tedious things.
