1. Repeatedly read the passage

to be paraphrased until you
have completely understood
what it says.

passage while you are
writing your
paraphrase.

the original passage once again to
check if you were able to accurately
capture its meaning. By doing this, you
will avoid misquoting your source.

● Retells story using few statements;
● Makes the material short and easy to comprehend; and
● Presents the essential ideas in a written piece or the gist.

What is a supporting detail?
● Detail that connects and supports the main idea
or the central point.
● Establishes one’s main point.
