• East North Central America

• The Name is derived from the French version


of Ojibwa word "mishigamaa" which means
"large water" and is nicknamed Great Lake
State (despite the lack of Wolverines)

• Is the 26th State to Acquire Statehood on the


26th of January 1837

• The State Tree: White Pine


• State Flower: Apple Blossom

• Ojibwa: a North American People from the


region of Superior Lake

• Most people in Michigan speak English

• Mostly Roman Catholic, but accepting of other Religions

• In Cities like Detroit there is a large Diversity of people including


Belgian, German, Hispanic, Polish, Greek, Italian, Middle Eastern, and
Black People.

• Michigan is 96 thousand square miles large

• The first commercial Broadcasts in the United States was from
Detroit's WWJ aka "Newsradio 950".

• In 1903 Henry Ford Founded the Ford Motor Company which


increased manufacturing of cars, and also led to garages and Gas
Stations being more Common along with car parts becoming more
available.
Industry
• Detroit is known as the car capital because of its manufacturing of
cars

• Alpena has the world's largest cement plant.

• Rogers City has the Largest Cement quarry
