Tofind the Value of ‘g’ by using the

Bar pendulum:
Apparatus :

Bar pendulum rod

Meter Scale
Stopwatch
Bar pendulum:
A bar pendulum also called a
compound pendulum , a swinging rigid body that is free to
rotate around a fixed horizontal axis.
Centre of gravity:
The average position of weight or
the single point associated with an object , where the force of gravity
can be considered to acceleration , usually the same place as the centre
of mass.
Free fall:
 The motion of a body towards the Earth , when no other
force except the force of gravity acts on it is called free
fall.

Time period:
The time required for a vibration
or a wave to make a complete cycle.
Gravitation or gravity:
 Itis the natural phenomenon by which physical bodies appear
to attract each other , with a force proportional to their
masses.

Axis:
A straight or imaginary lines on which an object rotates .
Theory:

 A compound pendulum is usually a metal bar about a meter long having holes
drilled along its length symmetrically on either side of the centre of gravity . Two
similar knife-edges are inserted in two holes at equal distances from the centre of
gravity . Calculate the distance from upper hole and bottom hole from the centre
of gravity (centre hole) and Oscillate it from some distance and calculate the time
period .
Formula to find the value of ‘g’ by using bar
pendulum:
g= 16 π2 L/3 Tmin2

L: length of bar pendulum (one hole to another hole).

T:time period of bar pendulum oscillation
T=t/n
t Total time
n No of oscillation
Observation Table:

S.N Length Oscillation Time Time period

O in ‘cm’ (n) (t) T=t/n
1. 62 10 18 18/10=1.8
2. 52 10 17.16 17.16/10=1.71
From the observation table we got Result:

 We got the
g1=1005.65cm/s2
g2=928.1cm/s2

gav=982.87cm/s2
