Technology is the technical means people use to improve their Surrounding. It is also the knowledge of using the Tools and machines to do task.

The first ste i st e i mi rati path t thir ge erati wireless mobile services (3G) is the ge eral pac et ra io services, GPRS, a pac et-switche technology that delivers speeds of up to 115kbps

Edge (enhance data rate for GSM evolution) is a radio signalling technology for 3G mobile networks. Edge is used for mobile service such as downloading of video and music clips full multimedia messaging highspeed colour internet access and e-mail on the move.

Enhance data rate for GSM evolution (EDGE) is a digital mobile phone technology. It is generally classified as a 2.75G network technology. Edge has been introduced into GSM network around the since world since 2003 initially in North america.

1.It can be used for any packet switching application such as an internet Connection. 2.EDGE circuit switching is a possible for future development.

Increase data rates up to 384 kbps introduces a new modulation technique (8PSK) and channel coding.

EDGE was first proposed to european telecommunications standards institute (ETSI) in europe, as an evolution of GSM at the beginning of 1997. Although EDGE reuses the GSM carrier bandwidth and time slot structure, it is by no means restricted to use within GSM cellular systems.

Implementation of EDGE by network operators has been designed to be simple. Only one EDGE transceiver unit will need to be added to each cell.

EDGE modulation technique EDGE is four times as efficient as GPRS. GPRS uses four coding schemes (CS-1 to 4) while EDGE uses nine Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS-1 to 9).

In addition to Gaussian minimum- shift keying (GMSK),EDGE uses higher-order PSK/8 phase shift keying (8PSK). EDGE produces a 3-bit word for every change in carrier phase.

Measurement accuracy it is done by measuring bit error rate , carrier Strength etc. It has done by quickly to select the right coding scheme

Edge link controlling function . It uses a combination of 2 functionalities : 1.Link adaptation . 2.Incremental redundancy.

Edge work y improving the signalling interface used to communicate over the radio wave. Typically edge enhance three time the performance of S achieving and ata rate to16 kbps per user with mobile terminals.

EDGE benefits
**Short-term benefits: capacity and erformance . **Easy implementation on a GSM/GPRS network. **Cost effective **Increase the capacity and triples the Data rate of GPRS. **Enabling new multimedia services . **Long-term benefits: harmonization with WCDMA.

Impact of edge on existing GSM/GPRS networks . *Hardware upgrade to the BSS (new transceiver in each cell) *Software upgrade to the BS and BSC *No change in the core networks new terminals -terminal which provides 8PSK in the uplink and The downlink -terminal which provides GMSK in the uplink And 8PSK in the downlink.

EDGE classic: EDGE classic is ETSI-EDGE with minor modifications, primarily information related to ANSI-13 , that enables it to be overlaid as a packet data carrier on top of the existing ANSI-13 30 khz air-interface. EDGE compact: EDGE compact uses the same modulation scheme as EDGE classic. However, there are certain key differences that enable it to be deployed in less than 1 mhz of spectrum.

1.Faster data transfer rates up to384 kbps . 2. EDGE brings more speed and Capacity when needed.
