Whistleblowing: An Ethical Dilemma in Human Resource Management

Meaning
Whistleblowing is the decision taken by an

employee to report or immoral practices of higher authorities or even peers, to the police or media or, persons, or to the organizations that may be able to effect appropriate corrective action.

Generally..
The misconduct is a violation of law, rule, regulation and/or a direct threat to public interest

There are two types of whistle blowers:


Internal whistle

Protecting whistleblowers in India


There are no legislations to protect whistleblowers

in India. During the past decade, the Indian corporate sector faced a lot of fiddles, fraud, cons and corruptions.

Enactment of a Whistleblowers Protection Act is

necessary for India as it can be a potent tool for promoting good governance.

Make sure that the allegation is correct. Keep careful records of what has been observed and attempt made to rectify it. Conduct research on whether or not the state provides protection for whistleblowers. Be realistic about future. Talk to the family and be prepared for the worst case scenerio which can include loss of job, financial, hardship, etc.

DON`TS
Dont run to the media. Check with an attorney before contacting any reporter. Dont ever report serious concerns informally. If there are serious concern, put them in writing.

Conclusion
