Distributed Architecture

The LNC processes the ISUP,TCAP,IS-41 and GSM MAP messages, performs Network Gateway control as well as digit analysis and routing. LSG which is dedicated to communication with the ss7 network and delivers SS7/M3UP/IP to the LNC. The NGs can be co-located with the LNC or located remote from the Lucent NC. The Lucent Compact Switch Solutions The LCS delivers the Lucent SG,NC and NG functionality in one chasis. This provides the smallest footprint and capacity solution for the packet tandem and packet gateway.

Mobile to Land Call Using Packet Tandem

Using the Packet tandem, calls will be routed through media gateways. These calls can be Time division Multiplexed to packet to TDM. For e.g. In this figure a subscriber on the MSC can make a call to a landline no. The MSC will connect via TDM to Lucent NG2 The Lucent NG2 will connect through the packet network to Lucent NG1,which will connect To the PSTN using a TDM connection The Lucent NC will control the Lucent NGs using H.248 and will provide the ISUP signaling to Lucent SG, which will provide the ISUP/SS7 signaling to the TDM offices via the SS7 network.

Land to Mobile Call using Packet Gateway

A land to mobile call would arrive at the Lucent NC on Lucent NG1 via TDM. The LNC would query the HLR,determine the location of the subscriber(MSC) and delivers the call. NG1 would connect to Lucent NG2 via the packet network.NG2 could them connect to the MSC via a TDM connection. LNC will control the NGs using H.248 and will provide the ISUP signalling to the PSTN and to the MSC through the Lucent SG via the SS7 network.

INTER-LUCENT NC Call
A mobile subscriber in Region1 can make a call to a wireless subscriber in Region2. The Region1 MSC connects to a NG using a TDM interface. The lucent NG connects over the long-haul packet network to a Lucent NG in Region 2, which then connects over a TDM interface to the serving MSC of the called mobile subscriber. The Region 1 Lucent NC communicates with the Region 2 Lucent NC, passing the necessary call control parameters to complete the call.

1)

When the serving MSC receives the called digits dialed by the MS, the MSC as a result of digit analysis and routing determines to route the call to the Packet Tandem( PT), namely to Lucent NG. The MSC uses SS7 signaling via the SS7 network to Lucent SG. The Lucent SG handles the MTP signaling, and passes the ISUP signaling to the Lucent NC. The Lucent NC uses the incoming ISUP IAM to set up the TDM trunk from the MSC to Lucent NG1. After doing digit analysis and routing on the called number received in the ISUP IAM from the MSC, the Lucent NC determines to route the call to a PSTN switch. H.248 signaling from Lucent NC to Lucent NG1 relays information that cause the set up of TDM-to-TDM path from Lucent NG1 to the MSC and from Lucent NG1 to the PSTN. The Lucent NC signals the PSTN switch with an ISUP IAM through the Lucent SG via the SS7 network and the PSTN switch receives the call.

1)

When the serving MSC receives the called digits , dialed by mobile subscriber (MS), the MSC as a result of digit analysis and routing determines to route the call to the Lucent NC,namely to the Lucent NG2. The MSC uses SS7 ISUP signaling to Lucent NC to set up the TDM trunk. After doing digit analysis and routing on the called number received in the ISUP IAM from the MSC, the LC determines that the call should be routed from Lucent NG2 to Lucent NG1 and from Lucent NG1 over a TDM trunk to a PSTN switch. H.248 signaling from the LNC to LNG1 and LNG2 relays information to them for creating and using packet connection between them. Once the connection between LNG2 and LNG1 has been established, the LNC signals the PSTN switch with an ISUP IAM and the PSTN switch receives the call from LNG1.

1) When the serving MSC receives the called digits dialed by the MS, the MSC as a result of digit analysis and routing determines to route the call to Region1 LNC. The MSC uses SS7 ISUP signaling to the Lucent NC in Region 1to set up the TDM trunk from the MSC to the region 1 Lucent NG. After doing digit analysis and routing on the called number received in the ISUP IAM from the serving MSC, the Region1 Lucent NC determines that the call should be routed from the Region 1 Lucent NC to another Lucent NC in New York, namely Region 2 Lucent NC. The Lucent NC in Region1 signals to Lucent NC in Region2 with SIP messages. After doing digit analysis and routing on the called number received in the SIP messages, the Region 2 Lucent NC determines that the incoming call should be terminated to the PSTN.

2)

3) 4)

5) Region 2 Lucent NC sends an H.248 message to its Lucent NC to allocate a TDM port and a packet port. 6)The Region 2 Lucent NC signals the PSTN switch with an ISUP IAM, and the PSTN switch receives the call from the Region 2 Lucent NC.
