The woman broke an alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus' head while he was dining in Simon the Leper's home. Others present criticized her for the waste, saying the perfume could have been sold to help the poor. Jesus defended the woman, saying she had done a beautiful thing for him and that the poor would always be around but his time with them was limited.

She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. Psalm 100:1-2
