RULES OF GAP –
1. CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION OF FERTILIZERS NEAR WATER COURSES – when
catchment area is <= 10 km2 width of protective stream should be 1 m – when
stream side slope is < = 5 degree , >= 2.5 m when stream side slope is 5 to 10
degree , > 5m when stream side slope is > 10 degree
2. CROP ROTATION – in farms having more than 15 hectare of agriculture land 50%
area should be covered should be covered by winter crops . In hilly areas on
slopes = 5 degree perennial grass >= 35 – 40 degree of total crop rotation area .
On slopes 5 – 7 degree – 50% , on slopes 7 – 10 degree – 65 to 80 % , on slopes
10 – 15 degree – perenial grass have to be planted .
3. ANIMAL DENSITY – should not exceed 1.7 per hectare of agriculture land
4. CAPACITY AND CONSTRUCTION OF MANURE STORAGE – manure storage should
be constructed in farms keeping more than 10 animal units , except farms
keeping animals on deep litter . Size contain livestock , horse and sheep manure
of 6 months , pig and poultry 8 months .
5. PERIODS WHEN THE APPLICATION OF FERTILIZERS IS INAPPROPRIATE – In snow
areas – manure and slurry spread from 15 march to 1 december, in no snow
areas – spread manure in cold season .
6. ESTABLISHMENT OF FERTILIZATION PLANS – fertilization plans take into account
soil type , soil PH ,soil condition , slope , climate , crop rotation , nutrient
storage in soil . More than 15 hec.
7. RATE AND UNIFORMITY OF SPREADING FERTILIZER AND LIVESTOCK MANURE –
Livestock manure should not exceed 170 kg of nitrogen per hectare of utilized agri
area .
8. CONSTRUCTION OF SHALLOW DUG WELLS – width of dug wells protective zone from
living house is 7 m , outhouse – 10 m , barn and manure storage – 25 m
9. USE OF PLANT PROTECTION PRODUCTS – only pesticide registered
