THE SCOPE OF SOCIOLOGY OF
EDUCATION
It is concerned with such general concepts such as society
itself,culture,community,class,
environment,socialization,internalization,accomodation,,as
assimilation,cultural lag,sub-culture, status,roleand so forth.
It is further involved cases of education and social class,state,
social force, cultural change, various problems of role
structure, rle analysis in relation to the total social system and
micro society of the school of such as authority, selection,and
the organization of learning, streaming, curriculam and so
forth.

It deals with analysis of educational situations in various


geographical contexts. Eg. Educational situations in rural,urban
and tibal areas, in different parts of country/world, with the
background of different races,cultures etc.
 It helps us to understand the effectiveness of
different educational methods in teaching
students with different knds of
intelligences.
 It provides an understanding of the prblems
such as gender discrimination, communalism
etc.
 It studies the role of school in socialization of
students.
EDUCATION AS A CONDITION OF
SOCIAL CHANGE
 Education makes the people aware of the
inedequacy of the existing system and
creates a craze for social modification
 Many of the old superstitions ,beliefs and
outdated customs which is retard social
progress, can be prevented by education
 Sociology of Education attempts to study and explain
concepts,activities and problems which are
sociological in naturebut emanating from, ans
associated with all situations of education.
 This is also a well developed branch of Sociology
which examines an important social activity and
institution in many societies.
 It systematically analyzes, describes or explains
education with regard to is social use and significance
in society;its relation with other social institutions of
the society; its impact or influence on society;its
inherent social problems;the social relationships and
organization in schools;teacher as a profession
